Sept2012_Reading is up?up?and away
More than 4,000 eager, young readers have received their passport to a world of non-stop excitement and adventure through the Moreton Bay Regional Council ReadUp program.
Mayor Allan Sutherland said the program had really taken off in its first six months.
“The ReadUp program encourages children eight years or under to visit a Moreton Bay Regional Council library,” the Mayor said.
Six or more trips to the library will earn them a specially designed certificate from a well-known children’s book illustrator.
The Mayor said 3,000 youngsters had joined council libraries to take part in the ReadUp program.
“A love of reading, learning and literacy is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children. Reading is a skill that will hopefully stay with them for the rest of their lives,” said Mayor Sutherland.
With 2012 being the National Year of Reading it is a great time to join a council library near you.
Council libraries are located at Albany Creek, Arana Hills, Bribie Island, Burpengary, Caboolture, Deception Bay, Kallangur, Narangba, North Lakes, Redcliffe, Strathpine and Woodford.
