Sunday 21st August saw the return of competitive Campdrafting to Dayboro for the first time in over 30 years, and with a little rain, no hail and a bit of sunshine the day was a success
The main arena of the Dayboro Showgrounds was transformed into a Campdraft arena for the day, and just under 400 head of locally sourced cattle were run through the Camp gates.
Maiden, Novice, and Open horses and their riders were tested on the course which was described by many as being as good as any that they have ridden on.  The day turned into a battle of the sexes, as the ladies threw down the gauntlet to the men, with the ladies taking out both the Livestock Exchange Maiden Draft and the Nielsen’s Open Draft.
Special mention goes to former Dayboro resident Bob Ayres who returned for the Draft – Bob ran the last Dayboro Campdraft all those years ago, and showed that he can still set a cracking pace having scored one of the first clean rounds of the day.
Competitors travelled from as far away as Chinchilla, and for a change some of the local riders were able to have a ride in their own back yard.  One such rider was Dayboro Cow Horse Club member Patrick McCaul from Clear Mountain who placed second in the Novice division riding Vic.  Patrick was thrilled to manage not only his first clean round in competition, but to also place on his home ground.
