Sept10 OFT ONLINE SEARCHES ASSIST QLD CONSUMERS

Is that charity registered to collect money in Queensland?
Is that person licensed for that type of work?

Carolyn Male MP, State Member for Pine Rivers, said the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) continues to embrace innovative ways of providing the most up-to-date information to Queensland consumers.
The Collections Act 1966 requires organisations wishing to publicly fundraise in Queensland to register with the OFT.
The new charity search tool on their website allows people to see if an organisation is authorised to collect money in Queensland.
To find out do a free check through the Queensland Online Charities and Associations Register.  This link takes you straight to the relevant search section:  http://www.fairtrading.qld.gov.au/check-a-charity-or-association.htm   (Or, from the OFT website, click on ‘Associations & non-profits’ – across the top of the  homepage – and select ‘Check a charity or association’)
Also available on this site is the facility to check whether the people you are dealing with are licensed or registered through the OFT – This covers  a range of occupations including real estate agents, motor dealers, travel agents, introduction agents and security providers.  (The register is updated daily.)
Carolyn Male MP said the range of occupational licences issued by the OFT ensured those working in specified industries operated with a high level of professionalism.
The website has averaged around 10,000 hits per month since its launch.
