Dayboro & District Rural Fire Brigade

DDRFB is now on Facebook.  This page gives us the opportunity to provide you with ‘up to date’ valuable information and advise you of up & coming events.  Then there is the fun stuff, like sharing photos from our Awareness Day and Skills & Drills Day. We feel it will be a great way to connect with the community.

You don’t need to have a Facebook account to check out our page.  So why not have a look and for those who are Facebook users, remember to tell your friends.  Better still, share our page.

We have an article in the July Rural Fire Bulletin discussing ‘the DDRFB Chatter’ as well as some images from our Skills & Drills Day.  If interested you can download this from ruralfire.qld.gov.au    Check us out on page 13 of the bulletin.

While you are there why not check out some of the brochures available.  There is a guide for you to prepare your own Bushfire Survival Plan, which you can download or print.

The other website worth checking out is fire.qld.gov.au

These sites are full of information to help you prepare your home and your family for the bushfire season.  They cover everything from current fire bans and incidents, a pre-summer checklist to long-term fire precautions, safety tips and even info for the kids.  Get the kids involved, they will love it.

Have we reminded you lately about checking your yellow rural numbering post & number lately? Is the post upright and is it visible to approaching vehicles?  Is your number clear? Is your number reflective at night?  If your post or number requires maintenance please contact council on 3205 0555.

Why not download our PREPARE.ACT.SURVIVE ‘Are you bushfire prepared?’ magazine from ruralfire.qld.gov.au     

If a hazard reduction burn forms part of your preparedness you must obtain a ‘Permit to Light Fire’ from the Fire Warden if the fire is to be bigger than 2 metres in any direction.  You can download an application complete with instructions on how to complete from the same website.  If you are not sure on something please contact your local Fire Warden.  All contact details are on the new Facebook page or listed below.

VIP – Ken Ware

Ken moved to Dayboro in 2008.  In 2009 a passer-by noticed smoke at Ken’s property and called it in.  Our extremely friendly brigade attended and Ken decided it was a great way to support the community so he decided he had to join our brigade.

Ken is an electrician full time but you may know him better from his Dayboro Markets honey stall and display.  He is an Apiarist at Wattavue Apiary.  His honey products took out a few prizes at the Dayboro Show this year.  Ken is not just a honey champion.  His Clydesdale ‘Angus’ won Champion Clydesdale gelding at the 2002 Ekka.

Ken enjoys restoring his Ferguson tractor which he proudly showed off in the Dayboro Day parade.

When he is not with the brigade or tending to bee hives he enjoys anything outdoors, including mountain & trail bike riding, playing with his border collies or playing around with anything that has a motor and makes a noise.
