The RSL is committed to not only provide day to day Advocacy and Representational support, but also provide day to day assistance to all veterans and ex service men and women, regardless of their membership in the League. It is a means for members to enjoy camaraderie and mate ship whilst promoting loyalty and pride in one’s Nation, its people, the Crown and the Australian Flag.
Membership to the RSL (Returned Services League) is open to all currently serving and ex serving members of the Australian Defence Force, Allied Forces, Cadet Officers and Cadet Instructors are able to join.
Dayboro Community Kindergarten Donation
Jodie from the Dayboro Community Kindergarten accepted both the Dayboro RSL’s ($300) and ADM Business Consultants ($200) donation to assist in the reconstruction of the playground fort from Alex McMillan. Alex is both the president of the Dayboro RSL and owner of ADM Business Consultants.
Australian Military History
In the month of September military events occurred that involved many Australian service men and women, both past and present, these dates are acknowledged nationally by the RSL, some of the more significant events are listed below:
1 September
Trp. J.H Bisdee and Lt. G.G.E. Wylly were awarded
the VC at Transvaa
Pte. W.M Currey, Sgt. A.D Lowerson, Pte. R.C
Mactier, Lt. E.T. Towner, T.Cpl. A.H.Buckley and Cpl. A.C Hall were awarded the VC at Peronne,
France.
2 September
1918 T.Cpl L.C. Weathers awarded the VC at Peronne France.
1945 Japan signs Surrender.
3 September
1915 T/Lt. W.T Dartnell awarded the VC ay East Africa.
4 September
1942 Cpl. J.G. French awarded the VC at Milne Bay New Guinea.
13 September
1943 Pte. R. Kelliher awarded the VC at Nadzab.
15 September
1916 Tanks first used in France.
1950 UN amphibious landing at Inchon Korea.
18 September
1918 Pte. J.P. Woods and Sgt M.V. Buckley (aka G. Sexton) awarded the VC at Le Verguier, France.
20 September
1917 2nd Lt. F Birks awarded the VC at Ypres.
22 September
1917 Pte. R.R. Inwood awarded the VC at Ypres.
23 September
1942 General Blamey appointed C in C of Allied forces in New Guinea.
HMAS Voyager lost off Timor.
26 September
1917 Sgt. J.J. Dwyer awarded the VC at Zonnebeke.
27 September
1950 Australians embark Kure for Pusan Korea.
28 September
1917 Pte. P.J. Bugden awarded the VC at Ypres.
1950 3 RAR arrives in Korea.
29 September
1918 Australian troops attack Hindenburg Line.
Maj B.J. Wark awarded the VC at Ballicourt.
30 September
Pte. J. Ryan awarded the VC at Hindenburg.
