Sep2013_Ita Buttrose opens 10th Seniors Expo
Peter Dutton, Federal Member for Dickson and Shadow Minister for Health and Ageing, and Ita Buttrose AO OBE, Australian of the Year 2013, officially opened the 10th Dickson Seniors’ Expo last month.
Over 650 people visited the Expo on Monday 5th August, with approximately 1200 attending over the two-day Expo, breaking previous records substantially.
Mr Dutton thanked Ms Buttrose for taking the time out of her busy schedule to come and officially open the Expo.
“It was great to have Ita Buttrose officially open the Expo. She is an inspiring woman and a very deserving recipient of the Australian of the Year Award for 2013,” Mr Dutton said.
“Ita spoke about the stigmatisation towards older Australians and how we can work towards a community that respects and utilizes the strengths of our older citizens,” Mr Dutton said.
This year, the Expo hosted over 50 stallholders who all found the Expo to be a great success.
Mr Dutton congratulated the Dickson Seniors Committee Members, particularly their chairwoman Penny Edwards, the secretary, Olwyn Connolly and treasurer, Elizabeth White.
I am looking forward to working with the Dickson Seniors Council on next years Expo,” Mr Dutton said.
