Renewable is do-able
Pine Rivers Climate Action Network (CAN) have had an upsurge in their supporter numbers after a very successful public meeting in February about a major project for 2008. The Solar Neighbourhood Scheme is a project aiming to set up communities of 50 houses to install rooftop solar cells, thereby reducing household electricity costs and greenhouse gas emissions. The project is under way in the Samford area with plans to expand throughout the year.
Pine Rivers CAN is getting out into the community encouraging residents to reduce their energy and water use in practical and easy ways. The group is spreading their message about more sustainable living with their information stall popping up at local markets and events around the region, like the Samford Church Yard Markets and the Rally for the Valley. Changing light bulbs over to more energy efficient fluoros, doing your laundry in cold water, and buying groceries locally to reduce your “food miles” are just small steps that everyone can take to reduce their impact on the planet. The group has these and other hints on flyers at their information stall and on their website:

Monthly meetings in Samford and an online newsletter keep supporters inspired to “live greener” with visitors and new supporters always welcome. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 19th March at 7pm in the Old Catholic Church, Cnr Samford Rd and Camp Mtn Rd, Samford.
