QLD GOVERNMENT SOLAR PLAN WELCOMED BY INDUSTRY

Solar Shop Australia, one of the country’s leading renewable energy companies, has welcomed moves to make Queensland schools the most energy efficient in Australia.

The Queensland Government today announced the first 10 state schools to have solar panels installed as part of the $60 million Solar and Energy Efficiency Program.

Over the next three years, the program will see 1,251 Queensland schools receive solar panels to help offset their energy usage.

Solar Shop’s General Manager Queensland, Mr Bernie Dombroski, said the program was a step toward increasing Queensland’s adoption of renewable energy.

“Despite all the sunshine our State is blessed with, Queensland has had one of the lowest uptakes of solar energy in Australia,” he said.

“Since the Australian Government rebate was introduced in 2000, there have been just 1,844 connections to the grid – around half that of New South Wales, and well behind Victoria and South Australia.

“This is not because Queenslanders aren’t open to solar energy. In fact, there is increasing support for solar energy as a way to reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to the fight against global warming.”

Mr Dombroski said installing panels at schools was a great way to introduce solar technology to Queenslanders at a very young age.

“For us to move towards widespread acceptance and adoption of solar energy, we need to start with our young people. Not only do they have incredible influence over their parents’ energy consumption habits, but are also the home-owners of tomorrow.”

Solar Shop Australia is a wholly Australian-owned company which designs and installs solar energy products from a range of manufacturers.
