The following courses and groups are being offered by
PINE RIVERS NEIGHBOURHOOD CENTRE
from January to June 2008

Families in Transition – For families experiencing change. Incorporating the Seasons™ program.
Families in Transition is available to young people who have experienced loss through separation, divorce or the death of a loved one.
Our program caters to primary aged children aged 7-12 years across three different levels. Group size is limited to six children per group.
Two trained ‘companions’ facilitate the nine sessions, attended on a weekly basis after school
While the kids are at Seasons, parents are invited to get-together and learn more about supporting their children through family change.
Programs will be held in Term 1 Wednesdays from 6th Feb-26th March, Term 2 Wednesdays from 23rd Apr-18th June.
Cost is $30 for the entire program. Childminding is provided.
Positive Parenting for Couples – Join Ross Adams (Family Therapist) and a group of parents in a relaxed, safe and confidential space to explore and develop positive parenting and communication skills with children and teenagers.
Topics include:-
– Building love and respect in the family.
– Understanding children’s behaviour
– Setting firm boundaries and follow-through
– Fostering positive self esteem
– Positive role modeling and problem solving techniques
– Dealing with overload or stressful situations.
Tuesday evenings –
Bookings essential. Cost $25 for entire course.
Kids Self Esteem – for young people aged 9-12years, covering the following topics:
– What is Self Esteem?
– High and Low Self Esteem
– How to enhance your Self Esteem
– What are feelings and emotions?
– Bullying and Resiliency
– What are friends?
– Our Strengths.
The program will be held on Thursday afternoons
Total cost is $15.
Parenting to EnhanceYour Child’s Self Esteem
While the children attend Kids Self Esteem, the parents and carers are invited to join this group which is designed to provide information and ideas on supporting, encouraging and promoting your child’s self esteem.
Mothers Wellbeing – An opportunity for mothers to support each other while learning about topics of interest.
Topics for 2008 include:-
– Positive Parenting
– Effective Communication
– You and your child’s self esteem
– Schoolyard Bullying.
There will be guest speakers throughout the year. The meetings are always enjoyable and informative.
Held on the first Friday of every month and childminding is available 10:00am- 12:00noon. Gold coin donation to help cover tea and coffee cost.
Life’s Journey – Are you a mother who has children under the ages of 18 years?
Held in Partnership with Relationships Australia, this free seven week group will see you exploring new and creative ways to express yourself, explore ideas and have some fun.
Activities during the seven weeks include:-
– Clay
– Communication
– Mosaics
– Life stresses
– Relaxation
– Music and Poetry Appreciation
– Painting.
Come and experience new ideas and new friendships.
Thursdays
ASPIRE Support Group – ‘ASPIRE’ is a group for mums to come together once a month to support each other.
Women who attend ASPIRE have all, at some time, experienced depression and the difficulties that this causes in their daily lives.
‘ASPIRE’ meets in a relaxed and informal environment. Topics and guest speakers are planned throughout the year, which include:-
– Positive communication
– Understanding feelings
– Expressing emotions
– Self-worth
– Relaxation
as well as discussing and learning new coping strategies.
Meetings are held on Tuesdays, 10am-12noon. Gold coin donation helps cover coffee/tea costs.
19th February, 18th March, 14th April, 20th May and 17th June.

Understanding & Managing Anger
A therapeutic group program for men and women who are challenged by their own expressions of anger.
Held in a safe and confidential space, topics include:-
– Understanding the context in which anger develops
– Skills and strategies to deal with your anger
– Improved communication skills for family relationships.

Looking In Looking Out
In partnership with Relationships Australia, this free 6 week group is for parents and carers who are interested in exploring ideas around self esteem and ways to make changes towards a healthier self esteem.
Held in a safe, creative and confidential space, explore topics such as:-
What is self esteem?
Where do we get self esteem from
Ways to increase and maintain your self esteem & Assertiveness.
