Pine Rivers Home Assist Secure celebrates 10th Anniversary
A program which helps modify homes for people with special needs is celebrating 10 years of valuable service this month. It has provided more than 35,000 services to 6,600 clients over the past decade.
Home Assist Secure’s valuable maintenance, modification and security services have ranged from minor maintenance such as servicing taps and toilets, to the changing of light bulbs, installing smoke alarms and replacing step treads.
Assistance included the installation of grab rails, ramps and wedges, hand rails and chair raisers based on the recommendations of occupational therapists.
From one full time employee in 1999 they now have a coordinator, an assistant coordinator, five trade-qualified field officers, two team support officers, volunteers and up to 65 subcontractors to deliver the service. Extra Government funding sought could increase staffing further.
The service is delivered by council and funded by the Department of Housing and the Home and Community Care Program.
To be eligible for Home Assist Secure, people must be 60 years and over, or any age with a disability, or a carer of a person with a disability living in their own home.
