Oct2012_WHY you need to care about your food sources before it?s too late

Initially this month’s article was going to be about support and then I read the Food Connect Newsletter and changed my tack.  It is still about support just a little different to my original idea.
It got me thinking how much do we support our body with good food.  How much time do we take to consider what we eat.  Do we fall into the trap of always having quick meals because we are so busy with our lives.  What will this end up costing us and our children?
Please read the following information and be informed about what is happening with our food sources.  How will this impact you and your family’s health and well being?
For me I feel I need to support our farmers here in Australia and I want to be able to access locally grown fresh clean produce that is not genetically modified.  What do you want?
Food Connect is one organisation that is supporting local farmers to bring good quality fresh food to people.  There website is http://brisbane.foodconnect.com.au/ where you can find out all about them and what they are doing.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
The following information is from the September Food Connect eNewsletter and was written by Erin Young, Food Connect Brisbane. 4 September 2012.
The National Food Plan (NFP) is a current Australian Government initiative “to help ensure that the government’s policy settings are right for Australia over the short, medium and long-term”.  Unfortunately, it seems the Government’s conception to “foster a sustainable, globally competitive, resilient food supply that supports access to nutritious and affordable food” has a heavy focus on serving the economic agendas of large-scale corporate groups, with little effort in recognising the importance of supporting and growing organic agriculture, let alone localised, bio-regional food systems (as we well know about here in the Food Connect community).  The Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance (AFSA) summarised it well on their website:
The assumption that underpins the government’s plan is that if the needs of corporations for increasing profit are met, so too will be the needs of ordinary Australians for a food system that delivers healthy, nutritious food for all; dignified livelihoods for family farmers and food system workers; and which preserves and enhances ecosystem integrity, without endangering all our futures through excessive greenhouse emissions and fossil-fuel dependency.
We beg to differ.  We believe that the evidence shows a growing catalogue of socially and environmentally destructive outcomes of the globalised and industrialised food system, which mean that the interests and needs of large corporations, on the one hand; and of ordinary people, family farmers and food system workers, and ecosystem integrity, on the other, are sharply diverging.
AFSA are speak-heading a campaign to develop the People’s Food Plan, a counter food plan speaking directly to the needs of Australian farmers and consumers.
Here are some resources to help inform you on these food plans:

I hope you can find some time to take some notice of the National Food Plan and support AFSA with an alternative for the benefit of all of us.
“Retreat for a Day” – Fantastic
Wow! What a great day we had.  There were eight participants that gathered for a day of nurturing and nourishing.  Here’s what a few of them had to say.
Linda’s knowledge and experience in natural health is vast and uncompromised.  Linda incorporates Ayurveda and Gestalt into her every day life and so it is natural for her to help clients incorporate better practice in their every day lives too.  I appreciate Linda’s authenticity, kindness and professionalism and highly recommend her programs and workshops, which are educational, interactive and of great value to me in my life.  From Maryanne
An inspirational day of learning why it’s important to take time out, some tools on how to do it and the magical sense of empowerment and contentedness that is created when you do. From Caroline
I recently attended the Retreat Day at Rainbow Atma.  I had never been to a Retreat Day before and meditation was always one of those practices that never seemed to come naturally to me.  So I was very excited at the prospect of indulging in a day just for me.  My main objective was to learn some skills that would help me to relax my mind.  A relaxed mind is a healthy body.  From the moment I arrived, Linda created a wonderful atmosphere that was very warm, friendly, open and sharing.  Linda navigated us through the day in a flowing connectedness with great precision and management that felt easy to enjoy and experience.  The day was relaxing, calming, peaceful and punctuated with periods of silence that allowed us to contemplate gratitude as so often in life, we don’t stop to really appreciate all the gifts that are right in front of us.  I was also fortunate to feed my body and taste buds with a delicious Ayurvedic lunch.  Linda taught a few different meditations and the experience was amazing for me.  Under Linda’s guiding influence I could meditate and was elated by the experience.  Unfortunately, the day came to an end, however, I left the Retreat Day, so relaxed and calm physically but also clear and energized mentally.  I would absolutely recommend Linda’s practice to anyone who wants to renew or create positive health for their mind, body and soul.  I believe that with good health comes good quality of life.  Thank you Linda for the healthy impact that your Retreat Day has had on me.  From Robyn.
Thank you to all those who attended, I am so very grateful and inspired by your experiences and look forward to many more Retreat Days.
