Voluntary Conservation Agreements are being expanded across the Moreton Bay Region.
Moreton Bay Regional Council’s Strategic Planning spokesperson and Division Nine councillor Mike Charlton, said Voluntary Conservation Agreements were aimed at helping private owners protect and enhance the environmental assets of their land, and the region.
“Voluntary Conservation Agreements won’t suit all owners or be relevant to all land holdings,” Cr Charlton said.
“They’re legally binding agreements with council to help with the care and management of larger privately owned tracts of land of environmental significance to the ecosystems of the Moreton Bay Region.”
Voluntary Conservation Agreements were an initiative of the former Caboolture Shire Council and from this week Moreton Bay Regional Council is making them available to eligible Moreton Bay Region land holders.
The agreement includes the compilation of a management plan identifying the values to be protected and a rate rebate to assist with the cost of weed control and other costs associated with maintaining environmental obligations.
“It demonstrates council’s commitment to protecting the biodiversity and lifestyle of the Moreton Bay Region.”
