Oct2012_Memorial Footy Match
September 11th 2012 marked the 11th Anniversary of the terrorist attack in New York. This was the second annual memorial rugby league match between Queensland Fire & Rescue Service (QFRS) and Queensland Police Service (QPS).
It is to honour the memory of 343 fire-fighters and 27 police officers who died helping to evacuate more than 25,000 people in two hours before the collapse of the Twin Towers.
Justin Tyson and Wayne Taylor, representing QFRS, and Russell (Barra) Mundy representing QPS played a very intense game of football after a memorial service which was held at Kougari Oval at Wynnum on Sunday 9th September. This year the Police won the game 26 – 20. Last year the ‘Firies’ won.
Officers from both services came from all over Queensland to play in this game which is already becoming a much sought after match to be a part of. There were quite a lot of ‘Dayboroites’ there in the crowd cheering on both sides.
