Oct2012_FRIDAY 21st SEPTEMBER was THE INTERNATIONAL DAY of PEACE

Every year a Special Ceremony is held at The Peace Haven at The Lyell Deer Sanctuary.
To commemorate this day in keeping with other countries around the World.
This year 2012 Kupidabin Cultural Association Inc. Committee contacted all the local Schools and invited students to take part in a drawing/painting competition showing  their  impressions   of  how they  defined  the  words
‘ May Peace Prevail on Earth.’
Nineteen incredible drawings were submitted from Class 2 V W at Dayboro State School.
The children were inspired by material about other Peace Poles around the world downloaded by their Teacher from the Internet.
The Standard was extremely high from all the children and made it a very difficult task for the Kupidabin Committee to decide on a Winner.  They were ‘All Winners’.
The decision was made to award Callum Doherty First Prize, and his drawing was framed and hung in the Peace Haven during the Ceremony.
Sherrie McLean and Debbie Rivers, Members of K.C.A.I. on The International Day of Peace presented Special Excellence Award Certificates to all the children in Class 2 V W for their thoughts and impressions of Peace.
Lyell Deer Sanctuary Peace Pole was erected at a dedication Ceremony on Easter Saturday 7th April 2007.
It is an 8 sided Pole which  holds  24 Plaques – 3 on each side.
“May Peace Prevail on Earth’ is  engraved in the  Native languages  of ‘ Friends of Lyell Deer Farm’ in:-
English, Aboriginal, Maori, Japanese, Finnish, Gaelic ,Druid,  Runes, Greek, French, Guarani, Tuscarora, Urdu, Chinese, Russian, Tsalgio, Spanish, German, Iroquois Nation and Lakota / Sioux Nation.
2011 a plaque was placed on The Peace Pole for the Czech Republic by the Pavoursky Family.
This year, 2012, we had representatives of the Italian community and a Native American Blackfoot Elder representing the Sikisika Nation in Canada putting Plagues in their native languages on the Peace Pole.  (There are now only 2 spaces left.)
A Peace Pole is an Internationally recognized symbol of the Hopes and Dreams of the entire Human Family.
