Oct2011_LNP URGES RESIDENTS TO BE PREPARED FOR FIRE SEASON
LNP candidates in Pine Rivers and Kallangur today urged local residents to be prepared for the possibility of bushfires this summer.
Mr Seath Holswich, LNP Candidate for Pine Rivers, stated today, “With the onset of warmer spring weather and the smoky haze that we’ve seen over the region in the past couple of days, it’s a timely reminder that residents should be preparing for the possibility of bushfires in our region.”
“We are spoilt to live in a region with so much natural beauty, but the flip side of that beauty is that it can cause serious harm during bushfire season,” Mr Holswich said.
Mr Trevor Ruthenberg, LNP Candidate for Kallangur, is urging local residents to apply the lessons from last summer’s extreme weather conditions. “One thing we learned last summer was that we need to be prepared for any scenario. I would urge everyone to take the time to prepare for the worst case bushfire scenario this summer.”
Mr Holswich and Mr Ruthenberg encourage all local residents to download a copy of the “Prepare Act Survive” booklet from the Rural Fire Service website at www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au .
The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service has declared a Fire Danger Period, meaning Queenslanders are not allowed to light a fire without a permit, regardless of the fire’s size, between now and 1st January 2012.
