A public tree planting morning will launch the substantial revegetation of a large area set aside as public open space at Northeast Business Park.
The planting session is a chance for members of the public to plant one of 6,500 trees that will transform 4.3 hectares of degraded land along a 400 metre stretch of the Caboolture River.
The tree planting is being led by Greening Australia and local environment group Friends of CREEC (Caboolture Environment Education Centre), who will be running stalls and talks on the day, and ultimately be responsible for the vast majority of trees planted.
Northeast Business Park CEO, Jeff Smith said the event was designed for people to play a small part in revitalising the landscape, and gain an understanding of the benefits of the revegetation for both the community and wildlife.
“This program is a massive undertaking, with Friends of CREEC and Greening Australia already having worked diligently collecting and propagating local seed,” he said.
The revegetation is a trial for a much larger program that will ultimately see the transformation of a large portion of the site’s 420 hectares of open space.
“We appreciate the outstanding ongoing support for Northeast Business Park from the local community, and this is chance for them to say they played a part in creating what will be a significant community asset,” Mr Smith said.
Food and drink, kids’ activities and entertainment will be available. The event on Sunday 4 December runs from 8.00am-12.00pm.
