Dayboro & District Rural Fire Brigade
Get Ready Dayboro!
It’s not a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’ we will experience our typical extreme QLD weather. So are you are ready for it?
Head over to the one of the following websites for loads of info to assist you in preparing your home, your family, pets and even your neighbours.
You can download factsheets and check lists.  My favourite is the ‘Emergency kit: essential items’.  Would you have thought to include toilet paper, a whistle, a spare mobile phone charger and a USB stick containing electronic/scanned copies of important documents?
Have you considered registering for Moreton Alert?
MoretonAlert is a free SMS, email and voice notification system to provide severe weather warnings, potential flash flooding incidents and planned dam releases within our region.  Go to moretonbay.qld.gov.au for all the info.
Thanks again to our Facebook friends for sharing our community safety messages and notifications of planned hazard reduction burns.  By sharing these posts it reduces the number of phone calls to our emergency services.

the Wardens’ Word
Fire Bans!
You should always check if a Fire Ban has been implemented in your area prior to lighting any fires.
You can check this at ruralfire.qld.gov.au  or
via the Fire Ban Info Line 1800 020 440.
Cigarette butts can cause fire.  Dispose of carefully.

VIP – The Alwyn & Margaret team
Alwyn became a member of the DAYBORO Bush Fire Brigade in 1970.  Margaret became a member after their marriage in 1972.  The brigade from the 70’s to the year 2000 was a class 1 brigade which consisted of members (mostly farmers) using their own private equipment to manage fire outbreaks.  Alwyn accepted the position of brigade Secretary in 1981 to enable the brigade status to remain active.
In the year 2000 after a fire burnt for six days before being successfully extinguished, the brigade was upgraded to a class 2 brigade therefore enabling the brigade to acquire land for a fire station, construct a fire station and purchase appliances.  Margaret accepted the role of treasurer as she enjoys book-keeping.
Alwyn and Margaret were instrumental in the siting of the station, the acquisition of the land, design of the station, station plan approvals, grant applications and general over-seeing of the project to construct the station.  We remember the great excitement upon the opening of the station in 2008 and the brigade purchasing our first medium attack vehicle 51, and later 52.  Communications were upgraded from phoning around for anyone to respond to an incident to an efficient paging service where all members now receive instant SMS in the event of a wild-fire.
Alwyn and Margaret:  “We relish being with a team of people who have the same ideals of community safety.
In 2011 we relinquished the roles of Secretary and Treasurer.  Alwyn remains an active firefighter and Margaret is a support member who assists with providing food for the firefighters.
We enjoy water skiing with our two sons, their wives and our two granddaughters, family and friends. We now spend more time travelling in our caravan around our great land Australia.”

…DIDYANO?…
Anyone found responsible for lighting fires without a permit where one was required, can be prosecuted.  Prosecution can also occur if a person is found responsible for lighting a fire that breaches local law or the Environmental Protection Act 1994.
