Movember
In November, the now annual proliferation of moustaches will herald the start of another Movember. It raises funds to promote awareness, education, survivorship and research for both prostate cancer and male mental health. Movember does this through its own direct programs and its partners Beyond Blue and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
Movember began in Melbourne and has become a global movement with over 1.9 million participants, in many countries around the world. For more information please visit www.movember.com .
Big Shed Happens – 10 November 2012
Men’s Sheds play an important role in our community. They are a great way for local men to meet, learn from and support other men. A good opportunity to experience one of our local sheds is on the 10 November 2012. The ‘Big Shed Happens ’ event is on from 9am – 4pm at Buchanan Road, Rothwell. A BBQ lunch will be available for $10. For more information please visit http://shednight.com
Sunshine & Flowers Morning Tea Held
The Flower Project Foundation is a community project to extend kindness to people who give so much to others. The project delivers flowers to carers, parents of special needs children, isolated elderly and people overcoming difficult health or life circumstances. Already a 1000 ‘bouquets of caring’ have given an emotional boost to many selfless people in our community.
The foundation held a morning tea, on the 3 November 2012, at the Farmers Hall, Samford from 10.00am to 2.00 pm. There will be food, music and entertainment. Entry was by gold coin donation. For more information about this organisation please visit www.theflowerproject.com.au .
School Exams
The end of the school year is fast approaching. Students at all levels will be facing their final exams. This can be a tough time, especially for year 12 students. Whether we are family, friends or neighbours, we can all do our bit to ease the pressure. A kind word, help to understand a difficult subject and making sure they have a quiet happy place to study can all help. Students should know that if they do their best, regardless of the result, there will always be opportunities for people who are prepared to apply themselves to the best of their ability.
I will soon be distributing my 2012 School Leavers’ Guide, to year 12 students across Dickson. I wish all students the best in their exams and the exciting times ahead, as they build their futures in this great country.
