News from the Dayboro Churches Nov 08

The recent Bush Dance in aid of the Dayboro and Mt Mee State Schools chaplaincy program was a huge success and the Dayboro Churches are keen to make this an annual event.  A feature of the night was the wonderful Stone the Crows Bush Band.  One member, Bill Turner, is a member of the Dayboro Uniting Church and he adds colour to worship there.
Thanks to sponsors and organisers for making this a great family affair and successful fund raising event.  The Chaplaincy position is currently vacant and Scripture Union has commenced advertising across the State.  Expressions of interest for this three day position are welcome.  They should be sent to the chairperson of the Local Chaplaincy Committee, Dr Paul Inglis.  A full job description will be forwarded on request.
The Christian Family Church is changing its venue for services and fellowship.  The Uniting Church congregation has unanimously agreed to sharing its facility and a trial has commenced on having the CF services at 10.30am in the Williams Street Church.  This follows the 8.30am Uniting Church service and shared morning fellowship between services.  Not only does this give people more options on times of worship but it creates an environment for more cooperative activity and community work by these two churches.  It also demonstrates what has been a key feature of the work of the churches in Dayboro for many years – a desire to complement each others work and cooperate for the better good of the community.
By the time this is being read, another German Night, presented by the Lutheran Church, will have been held.  If it was anything like last year’s gig, it will have been great fun.  Watch for this one next year.  Come along in 2009 and enjoy the German beers, folk singing and great food.
In August the Blue Care nurses presented an information session at the Uniting Church.  Five nurses were available to answer questions about their work in this area.  The new program of volunteer carers/visitors is proving very popular with families concerned about lonely elderly people who need to be regularly ‘checked-on’ while living in their own homes.  Dr Inglis, the Uniting Church minister, and two nurses also gave a talk to the Dayboro Lions on the services of Blue Care.  We are always interested to hear from people concerned about elderly friends and relatives who might be lonely or in need of some help.
The Dayboro Churches are well advanced in their planning for Christmas having started this in May!  The season will commence with a beautiful Advent Community Gathering at the Lutheran Church on Sunday 30th November at 7pm.  The Jubilee Singers from Ithaca with Steven McKay will set the atmosphere for the night and coffee and cake will follow.  Everyone is welcome and a donation will help cover expenses.  This year’s Community Carols in the Park will be on Sunday 7th December in Cruice Park (Dayboro Hall if raining).  We will be joined by the Dayboro School Band, The Pine Rivers Salvation Army Brass Band, the Churches Choir and Children of the Churches Drama group, Ultimate Entertainment (remember Dayboro Day!) and lots more.  Families are invited to gather in Cruice Park for picnic teas from 6pm with the Carols activities commencing at 7pm.  Christmas Services on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will be listed in the December Grapevine.
The Churches Community Chest, Pantry, and Casserole Bank have been running hot lately with regular support for the unexpected happening to local families.  The establishment of a Lions liaison officer to work with the Churches on welfare and emergency activities has meant that we are better able to respond to needs and not to duplicate effort.  Thanks for the many generous donations to the Community Chest left at the Electricity Credit Union.  Three volunteers from the churches are keeping the casserole bank stocked and ready while church members are keeping the pantry well supplied also.  Three or four families each week have been receiving support.
Raw Energy the Combined Churches youth scene is about to be given a major boost with new ideas and the addition of some new leaders.  Some of our young adult leaders have moved location for employment or entered into romantic distractions.  Some new leaders are preparing to inject some new energy and ideas and the planning stage is under way.  Watch this space!
