New Wildlife Workshops Program for 2008 at Qld Museum
Queensland Museum South Bank has released its Wildlife Workshops program for 2008.
This year the spotlight is on South-East Queensland with topics including Prehistoric Wildlife, Frogs, Backyard Insects and Snakes and Lizards.
Director of Queensland Museum South Bank, Sally Lewis said it was no surprise that these workshops were popular as they offered a rare, intimate learning experience presented by Museum experts.
“These workshops are a great opportunity for participants to develop a much deeper understanding and appreciation of Queensland’s spectacular wildlife,” Ms Lewis said. “This year we have increased the number of sessions to try to meet the demand.”
The workshops are:
Prehistoric Wildlife of the Great South-East: 19, 20 and 21 June. Find out about the diversity of fossil life in the Great South-East and look at how palaeontology can help predict the impact of environmental change. Presented by Scott Hocknull, Curator Geosciences and Kristen Spring, Assistant Collection Manager, Geosciences, Queensland Museum.
Frogs of the Great South-East: 24 – 25 July. Presented by Greg Czechura, author of the new Queensland Museum guide, Frogs of South-East Queensland.
Backyard Insects of the Great South-East: 21 – 23 August. This will assist participants to identify common backyard insects and determine which are pests and which are not. Presented by Dr Chris Burwell and Dr Christine Lambkin, curators at Queensland Museum.
Snakes and Lizards of the Great South-East: 11 – 13 September. These workshops will offer pointers on identification and shed light on the secret lives of the fascinating creatures that share our environment. Presenters Steve Wilson and Kieran Aland are Information Officers with the Queensland Museum’s Inquiry Centre.
