Ahhh! Computers!! Don’t we just love ‘em . . . . When things are running smoothly that is!! Mind you they are on the receiving end of many a harsh word when things go awry . . . and they cop the blame for many a foul-up that occurs. Sometimes this may be justified . . . . Sometimes it is not.
“NOT” is certainly the case for me this week!!
“NOT” is certainly the case for me this week!!
I looked up at the screen and everything was sideways!!!
1. How did that happen? 2. How can I fix it?
I had, seconds before, plonked a ream of paper onto the desk in order to open the packet and then refill the printer’s paper tray.
Did it hit some mysterious combination of keys? Now I’m a BIG fan of keyboard short-cuts . . . . . . Obviously some wondrous combination of keys had brought about my computer screen’s transformation – but how could I get it back to the way it was??
After closing all of the files and programs I had been using, I set about looking up the Help file in order to fix the problem. It didn’t take long for my neck to get sore so the on-line Help was canned – Just see how long you’d last with your ear touching your shoulder as you are trying to read what is sideways on your computer screen.
A printed “How to ….” book was dragged off the shelf instead. No reference was found about this particular issue – Well why on earth would someone want their screen’s images to be sideways anyway?? BUT . . . The moment I got to the section headed “System Restore” I saw the answer to my dilemma. Marvellous invention that System Restore! Got to wonder why there was a keyboard short-cut, or whatever, for this in the first place!!
N.B. Do you create a Restore Point before loading a new program or adding a new device? This really is a great idea and it doesn’t affect your files. I restored the computer to the previous day’s automatically created Restore Point, but the files I had created today were still right there on the computer!
