NETWORK TOPIC Mar 08

Talk about being caught “on the hop”!!  It was only whilst putting this edition together that the realisation came that our normal deadline i.e. 3rd Friday would be GOOD FRIDAY.  For this reason the deadline for the April edition is THURSDAY 20th March.  Please respect this deadline.
ELECTIONS – 15th MARCH 2008
The Local Government Elections in 2004 were pretty much a non-event for us here in Dayboro with both the Mayor, Yvonne Chapman, and our Divisional Councillor, Bob Millar, elected unopposed.  That’s all so different this time around – We are all, from March 15, part of one big “super-council”, the Moreton Bay Regional Council (MBRC), and this time we have 5 candidates for the Mayoral position and 2 for our Councillor representative! (See pages 17 to 31)
We’ve gone from being Division 1 in Pine Rivers to Division 11 in the new region.  This is virtually an extension of our previous area, as it takes in Samford, Dayboro and up to Narangba and almost to Mt Mee!! Boundaries to the division include Lakes Kurwongbah and Samsonvale; with Mt Nebo, Mt Glorious and Laceys Creek Roads to the west, and the upper section, which borders on Division 12, being defined by something less obvious on the map – perhaps it is to do with the mountain’s terrain . . .  Anyway in Division 11 we have the distinction of having the highest number of electors, and the second largest size in area.  Division 12 is the largest in area.

Head on up to the Dayboro Community Hall on Tuesday 11th March for the Dayboro District Progress Association’s MEET THE CANDIDATES night (see page 5).  Perhaps what the candidates have to say, and how they respond to the questions asked, will help you to decide how to vote come Saturday, 15th March.
