As this is my first column in the Dayboro Grapevine I would like to take the opportunity to humbly thank the people of Pine Rivers for giving me their support and trust as their representative locally and in State Parliament.
In Pine Rivers, we are certainly a community representative of the diversity of Queensland, including rural and semi-rural and it is my intention to be a representative for all residents.
Electorate office open for business
My electorate office is now open. My experienced team and I are here to assist you with your State Government related issues. We are also in the process of establishing Justice of the Peace services and offer some limited printing and equipment hire to schools, sporting clubs and other community organisations.

Dayboro locals help support family violence victims
To celebrate International Women’s Day in March, I hosted a high tea at the Dayboro Teahouse which was attended by many local community members.
With the generous support of Nicole and her staff, we were able to raise $1000. This money will be donated to the Luke Batty Foundation, which helps support women and children who suffer the impacts of family violence.
This charity is run by Australian of the Year, Rosie Batty.
Pine Rivers community groups score grants
Local Rural Fire Brigades in Ocean View and Dayboro are among community organisations to share in nearly $10,000 in community grants across Pine Rivers.
Member for Pine Rivers Nikki Boyd said the grants would help local groups provide services to the community.
“This is about ensuring community groups in Pine Rivers that do such a terrific job are supported so they can keep giving people who need it a hand,” Ms Boyd said.
“We’re talking about organisations that help people in times of need and provide important community services.
“It makes sense to help them and ensure they can keep providing for the Pine Rivers community.”
Communities Minister Shannon Fentiman said a total of $1.3 million would be provided across the state as small one-off grants to help Queensland organisations buy essential items and equipment.
“Community and volunteer groups play an important role in helping Queenslanders, so we need to support them to continue the fantastic work they do,” she said.
“Successful organisations will receive small grants of up to $5,000 or for larger projects, grants of up to $15,000.
“This funding will allow organisations to upgrade current equipment, such as computers, white goods and furniture, which is essential to their service delivery.”
These successful Pine Rivers organisations are:
Dayboro and Districts Rural Fire Brigade – improved communications office layout and an additional water storage tank ($4944.00)
Ocean View Rural Fire Brigade – defibrillator in each truck ($4890.00)
Ms Boyd said the Caring for our Community grants recognised the valuable contribution of local volunteer and community groups across the state.
“These organisations work very hard to support Queenslanders in a wide variety of ways,” she said.
“It’s important to shine a light on their generosity – often they are at the heart of their local communities.
“I’ve seen the great work carried out by volunteer and community groups across Pine Rivers.
“I know how much they will appreciate the opportunity to upgrade or replace existing resources and equipment and purchase new equipment to support their services.”
