State Member for Pine Rivers
Local Tourism Survey
In conjunction with Member for Kallangur, Trevor Ruthenberg MP, we are looking to compile a list of the top tourism/recreational events, destinations and businesses located in the North Pine Region (Pine Rivers and Kallangur state electorates). We have created an online survey and provided a list of options, however you can also add your own.
All entries providing their name, address, contact number and email address will go in the draw to win a two night accommodation package at the award-winning Ocean View Estate Winery, with two runners-up receiving a dinner and wine vouchers for Norths Leagues & Services Club, Kallangur. The survey will close at midnight on Friday 20th June, with winners and the “top destinations” to be announced in the following months at a special local tourism promotion event. Please enter the survey on the following link, and read the terms and conditions for further details: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/northpinetourism
Volunteers Week Workshops
I will be holding a number of community and volunteer workshops during Volunteers Week in May. There will be a Justice of the Peace Training Workshop, for existing Justices of the Peace, and a Grant Writing and Social Media workshop for community groups. All local community organisations and Justices of the Peace are invited, however places are limited, so please contact my office on 3205 6779 or go to my website (www.seathholswich.com ) for more details if you are interested in attending.
Pine Rivers BrisBricks Lego Fan Expo
It’s on again! Last year I coordinated the Pine Rivers Lego Fan Expo and it returns to Strathpine Community Centre on 7th to 9th June (Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend). Online pre-sale tickets are only $7 for adults and $3 for children (ages 3-15). There is also a session on Sunday morning specifically for children with autism and their families. Go to www.trybooking.com/EPFV to book tickets. Last year’s Expo saw nearly 7,000 people attend and we raised $17,000 for local community organisations.
Tougher Penalties for Serious Animal Cruelty
Our government recently announced plans for legislation that will introduce a new serious animal cruelty offence that will crack down on animal torture. The new indictable offence of serious animal cruelty will carry a maximum penalty of seven years in prison and will target people who intentionally inflict severe pain and suffering upon an animal. These reforms build upon increased penalties for existing animal cruelty offences introduced just a few months ago – the maximum penalty for animal cruelty was increased from two years in prison or a $110,000 fine to four years in prison or a $220,000 fine. Cruelty and violence against animals cannot be tolerated.
YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament
Congratulations to Dayboro resident Clare Hohns, who has been selected as the Pine Rivers Youth Parliamentarian in the 2014 YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament. The Youth Parliament program gives Clare and other youth from around Queensland the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and learn about Parliamentary processes. Clare will be involved in writing mock legislation and then debating that legislation in Parliament in late September. I am pleased to be able to sponsor Clare as she undertakes her Youth Parliament experience. For more information about the YMCA Youth Parliament, go to www.ymcaqyp.org
Letters of Support
A reminder to community organisations, I am happy to provide letters of support to assist with any grant applications. We will provide your organisation with a template to fill out so I can ensure the letter has all the details you need. Please be aware these requests may take up to ten days for completion. If you require a letter of support at any time, simply contact my office on 3205 6779 or pine.rivers@parliament.qld.gov.au
