May2012_Sustainable Practices Benefit Samford Chamber Members

“Why doing good is good for business” – that was the message Carolyn King from Credos Associates explained to attendees at the Samford & Districts Chamber of Commerce on 11 April.
Credos Associates specialises in strategic communication, focused on sustainability and corporate social responsibility. Carolyn discussed the wider meaning of sustainability in business: ongoing, long living, perpetual.
She explored how sustainable practices have a 3-fold impact – economically, socially and environmentally – to the benefit of the organisation, its people and the wider community.
Throughout her simple, clear and thought provoking presentation, Carolyn encouraged us to consider the values that are important to us, and what sustainable practices we can implement in our own businesses.  It really was a fantastic way to look at how we can do more than just make money; how we can use our businesses to give back and make life better locally, regionally and globally.
At our next meeting in June, Howard Neilsen will be talking about the Viva Samford Futures Process.  Hundreds of comments from members of the community have been gathered through recent surveys and face-to-face interviews, and Howard will be explaining how these comments will be turned into priorities to be carried forward into a community driven master plan for the Samford Valley and into the Community Plan of the Moreton Bay Regional Council.
