MAIN ROADS UPDATE – MT MEE ROAD
I met recently with Department of Transport and Main Roads Project staff who are managing the repairs to Mount Mee Rd. These repairs are currently on track to be completed by early 2013. Further information about these works can be found at http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/Projects/Name/M/Mount-Mee-Road-Flood-Damage-Repairs.aspx
The region’s transport network reconstruction team can be contacted on 1800 459 366 or by emailing reconstruct_northcoast@tmr.qld.gov.au.
MAIN ROADS UPDATE – AJ WYLLIE BRIDGE
The Department of Transport and Main Roads has commenced construction works for the replacement of the northbound AJ Wyllie Bridge on Gympie Road at Petrie.
As you may be aware, the northbound side of the AJ Wyllie Bridge sustained significant damage during the January 2011 flooding event and it will be replaced.
As part of the works, a temporary working bridge is currently under construction on the upstream side of the northbound bridge.
Contractors will use this temporary bridge as a working platform when demolishing the existing northbound bridge structure and reconstructing the new two-lane bridge on the same alignment.
This temporary working bridge is part of the construction site exclusion zone, where members of the public are not permitted for safety reasons.
Work is underway on construction of the temporary pedestrian and cyclist facility which will provide safe access for pedestrians and cyclists during the demolition and reconstruction works.
The installation of this facility is expected to occur during nightworks in mid-May 2012, weather permitting, and the community will be provided with more information on these night works in coming weeks.
Currently, the existing northbound bridge is unsafe to carry motor vehicles, however pedestrians and cyclists can continue to use it until the temporary pedestrian and cyclist facility is installed. The southbound bridge is open to one lane of traffic in each direction.
The community can stay updated throughout the northbound bridge reconstruction, with a web page specifically created for the project at www.tmr.qld.gov.au/Projects/Name/A/A-J-Wyllie-Bridge-Gympie-Road.
There is also a free SMS service available at www.northpinebridgesms.com.au which will provide updates as works progress.
The project is being delivered under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA), a joint federal and state initiative.
The region’s transport network reconstruction team can be contacted on 1800 459 366 or by emailing reconstruct_northcoast@tmr.qld.gov.au.
PINE RIVERS CHARITY FUN RUN
As part of the Pine Rivers Festival, the Rotary Club of Pine Rivers Daybreak are holding the inaugural Pine Rivers Charity Fun Run on Sunday morning 27th May. There are 2km, 5km and 10km options.
