May2011_THE ST LUCIA ORCHESTRA in BROADWAY to PAVAROTTI

The ever popular Symphony on the Mountain series begins on Sunday 29th of May at 2pm in the Mt Mee Hall.  This is the first of three concerts planned for 2011.
The St Lucia Orchestra is a great Mountain favourite.  The affection that the players hold for Mountain audiences is always evident in their performances, and dashing young conductor Andrew Robinson never fails to set a few feminine hearts aflutter as he sets about his business.
“Broadway to Pavarotti” will explore quite a musical landscape, with selections from “Oklahoma”, “Phantom of the Opera”, “Les Miserables”, “Turandot”, “La Traviata” and the iconic “Nessum Dorma” to name a few.
The orchestra has two wonderful voices as guest artists – soprano Leslie Martin and tenor Iain Henderson.
Soprano Leslie Martin is an international performer who learned her craft with Opera Australia.  She has just returned from Switzerland where she sang the role of Norino in “Don Pasquale”.  Other roles in Europe have included Susanna in “Marriage of Figaro” and Oscar in “Un Ballo in Maschera”.  She appears in Opera Australia’s video recordings of several works and is a successful recording artist in her own right.
Tenor Iain Henderson is just twenty-two years old.  Iain is currently working with Opera Queensland and continuing his study at the Queensland Conservatorium under Margaret Schindler.  As though that was not enough, Iain frequently performs on stage throughout SE Queensland with the Ignatians, Operatif! and in the Conservatorium opera productions.
Big things have happened to the old Hall since the last concert.  A spacious deck, with roof, has been constructed alongside the supper room and this will provide a salubrious new environment for the traditional country afternoon tea – (included in the admission fee).
Admission remains unchanged at $20.00, with a discount of $5.00 for pension card -holders and with special arrangements for children.
BOOKINGS ARE ESSENTIAL, both for catering purposes and because this Mt Mee concert is always booked out.  Phone Kay (5498 2104) or Joyce (5498 2270) to secure your place. Payment can be made at the door.
Please book early for this symphonic and gastronomic delight!
This is a non-profit event and any surplus will go towards orchestral equipment and hall improvements.
