May 2010 . . Wow! High Def Raptors
Osprey House’s video camera for capturing raptor osprey bird’s mating and hatching habits has taken a Quantum leap! A high resolution digital video camera has just been installed on the raptor pole observation platform.
Division 4 Councillor Julie Greer said the improved picture quality meant it was almost like being on top of the observation pole among the raptors.
“This new camera replaces older technology and delivers a crystal clear high definition glimpse inside the domestic life of a raptor family,” she said.
Bird buffs throughout the world can log on to the Osprey House website and download film which brings into their homes these magnificent birds and Moreton Bay region. This is something we can be extremely proud of.”
Cr Greer said people could also travel to Griffin to see the ospreys first hand and view a live feed from the osprey-cam.
“It’s an amazing experience and to think Osprey House is just minutes from suburbia right here in South-East Queensland,” she said.
Cr Greer said the Raptor Pole was installed in 2006 with a live camera which recorded the hatching of a baby chick named Talon on July 3, 2009.
“Osprey House volunteers are hoping that now Mum and Dad have had some practice raising a healthy chick, there will be more on the way in 2010,” she said.
“The lower reaches of the Pine River and the wetlands in Brisbane’s North, are a perfect place for catching fish and raising an osprey family.”
