May 2010 . . Mash It Up 2010 winners announced
Young movie maker Luke Byars from Kallangur is a Steven Spielberg in the making.
His film, ‘The Gate’, was one of the stand outs at this year’s Mash It Up short film festival held on Saturday night, April 17.
Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan Sutherland said around 350 people had turned out for the event which showcased the next generation of local film makers.
“Judges felt Luke’s film was one of the highlights of the 20 entries screened for its extraordinary use of creativity and Monty Python style comedy,” Mayor Sutherland said.
“It offered incredible imagination, an engaging story and solid acting performances.”
Mayor Sutherland said “The Fairy and the Cupcake” by Jess Briscoe was among the best of the animated films.
He said her movie married a well crafted storyline with fantastic use of animation.
“A big congratulations goes out to all the entrants and winners of this year’s Mash It Up competition," he said.
“The quality and creativity of films keeps getting better and better and this year was no exception with outstanding special effects, graphics and animation.”
The 2010 Mash It Up Film Competition winners received $300 cash prize on the night. The event attracted 49 entries from 56 local film makers aged 12 to 25 years of age.
