“Men at Work”
A great team effort by these four gentlemen who volunteer their expertise and services will shortly see the completion of a large robust and extremely useful work table in our workshop.
Due to the increasing workload in restorations and repairs of the many and varied engines and machines with which we are involved this very user-friendly item will a valuable asset to all involved.
The workshop building itself is the end result of a museum project some years ago when volunteers constructed it as a replica of Samford’s first garage.
Some of the impressive experience and talents so readily given by volunteers is evident in the stories of the above four men.
John hails from Tasmania not far from Hobart and he has lived at Samford for about 6 years in his retirement. He is a new member who has quickly shown what a versatile and talented man he is and how easily one can enjoy being a part of the overall team.
Ron originates from Essex in UK and he has been in Australia for 27 years. He is a qualified toolmaker, instrument technician in radar and health and he is currently rebuilding a vintage Lambretta scooter at home here in Samford.
Rodney grew up at Closeburn and is a motor mechanic by trade.  Just like the others he is very versatile but can do almost anything with engines, vehicles and machinery. Rod’s personal collection at home is simply mind-blowing.
Robert from The Gap, in his earlier days was a cartographer then a bus driver and handyman. His initiative and ability to turn his hand to virtually any task is always in demand and particularly when woodwork is involved.
John, Ron, Robert and Rod are prime examples of the dedicated, diligent and skilled volunteers we have at our museum. Very significant though is the fact that they, like all of us, enjoy not only the challenge of the projects involved, but most importantly the fun and joy of good fellowship and new friendships made.  We really do look forward to all regular Wednesday work as well as the many public events we host.
Should any people, male or female be even slightly interested in joining our team please feel free to contact our President Geoff on 3289 6537  or drop in on Wednesdays or Sundays…you’ll be most welcome.
