Following on from its win at the Queensland Tourism Awards, Ocean View Estates has brought home the Bronze Medal in the Wineries, Distilleries and Breweries category at the Australian Tourism Awards, marking it as the third best tourism winery experience in the country.
The awards were contested across 30 categories, by the winners of state tourism awards programs, placing Ocean View Estates amongst a prestigious group of destinations from some of the country’s best-known winery regions.
Having been nominated for entry into the national awards for the last three years, the Bronze Medal and recognition on the national stage are well-earned rewards for Estate Managers and Co-owners, Thomas and Kate Honnef, who planted the first grapes on the property in November 1998 and have built their business from there.
Ocean View Estates is the closest fully-operational winery to a major CBD anywhere in Australia, and offers a range of experiences all on the one beautiful property including food and wine events, music and art events, picnics, horse riding tours, helicopter tours and accommodation – and it’s all right on our doorsteps.

Out in the vineyards, the warm weather over the last eight months has been welcomed by Winemaker Thomas Honnef and his team, who have finished picking the grapes a full month earlier than usual, meaning that the 2014 Vintage is set the be the Estate’s best on record.
“We’ve picked over 33 tonnes of grapes, at peak ripeness and quality, before any wet weather had a chance to set in,” Thomas said.
The wines will now be in vats until May when bottling begins.
