March2104_Celebrating Samford
Samford has been selected as one of five communities in Queensland to take part in the 2014 Animating Spaces project.
On September 13 and 14, Animating Spaces will celebrate the town’s unique history and identity with a festival, short film screening and sculpture display coordinated by local artists.
Moreton Bay Regional Council Division 11 Councillor Bob Millar said Animating Spaces was the perfect opportunity to showcase Samford’s creative community and explore the village through their eyes.
“Animating Spaces is a collaboration between council, Artslink Queensland and the local community to showcase the strong arts culture in Samford and the greater Moreton Bay Region,” Cr Millar said.
“This project will see local artists transform three sites into artistic hubs, highlighting Samford’s distinct regional identity.
“Leading up to the festival, artists will collaborate with the local community through workshops to develop the films, sculptures and bevy of unique artistic works.”
“I encourage everyone to get involved and help bring Animating Spaces to life.”
Councillor Millar said council would contribute $10,000 towards delivering the project.
“We’re especially thankful to Artslink Queensland for their investment of $60,000 in Samford’s arts community,” Cr Millar said.
Councillor Millar met last week with member of Artslink Queensland, members of the local arts community and the three coordinators chosen to organise event.
“I want to thank Letitia Norton and Kerryanne Farrer from Artslink Queensland who together with the coordinators, Vanessa Chadwick, Janice Charlish and John Salmond, will ensure that Animating Spaces recognises the rich contribution local artists continue to make to our community and region,” Cr Millar said.
