Not sure what the status of your driver licence is? You can now check it for free online.
Transport and Main Roads Director-General Neil Scales said the new service allowed drivers and employers to check on the status of a Queensland licence in a matter of minutes.
“Being able to quickly check the status of a driver licence online is handy for drivers, and will be a vital tool for many employers – particularly those in the transport industry,” Mr Scales said.
“In the past, customers would have to contact our call centre or fill out lengthy paperwork – but they can now check it quickly and easily at www.qld.gov.au/checkdriverlicence.
“Drivers will also be able to check their own licence to see if a period of licence suspension has ended before driving.”
Mr Scales said employers could also check the status of their employees’ licences quickly and for free.
“Previously an employer had to have their employee fill out forms, produce documentation at a Transport and Main Roads customer service centre and then pay an application fee – so this online service is a great efficiency initiative for businesses,” he said.
“This was a time consuming and inconvenient process, and did not provide any ongoing checks about licence status.
“Car hire companies will also be able to take advantage of the service before renting a car to a prospective customer.”
Mr Scales said checking a licence online requires the licence holder’s name, date of birth and licence number.
No personal details are disclosed as part of the service, such as a person’s address, traffic history or demerit points balance.
