Dear Editor,
I am writing this letter at 1 a.m. after arriving home from assisting a 17yr old young man who flagged me down on Dayboro Road not too far out of town.
This young man, who happens to be the same age as my step son, had been involved in a car accident over half an hour before I stopped. He had also walked more than one kilometre in the pouring rain trying to get a car to stop and help. At least 6 cars had driven past.
Once I had pulled over and assessed my own safety, I tried to stop another car to assist, however they also drove past. I would like to thank the man in a small silver car who did stop.
I understand for personal safety reasons, why people may not want to stop; however please consider the safety of the person you have just driven past and other motorists on the road. Most people carry a mobile phone which could be used to call the police and alert them to the situation. In this case it was also only a couple of minutes drive to the phone box outside the post office.
Although his car had gone over the embankment and rolled several times, luckily, after being taken to hospital by ambulance, he was given the all clear.
If you are travelling anywhere and notice a person in an unsafe or obviously distressed state, please do not ignore them. Take two minutes out of your life and contact 000 to help someone else. I strongly hope that someone would stop or call for assistance for my son, any of my family members or myself as I regularly travel this road at night as I am a shift worker.

Letter to the Editor re Reinbo All Nations Gathering.
I would like to publicly apologise to Kenny Henry for my reference to him as "a Local boy" in my write-up about the Reinbo All Nations Gathering in the December issue of the Grapevine.
I am a "Kiwi" and still have a lot to learn about Indigenous protocol. There was certainly no disrespect intended.
Kenny is a talented aboriginal artist and didgeridoo player and we were very grateful to have him play didgeridoo at The Opening Ceremony of Reinbo All Nations Gathering in November at such short notice.

Dear Editor,
On behalf of Terry and Tinneil, I would like to THANK the staff at the Old Mill Vet and Old Mill Pet and Livestock, for all their help and support over the past 8 months or so. That was when our lives were turned upside down after we were the subjects of a dog attack. So it was with a sad and very heavy heart that we put out mate of 10 years, JACK, to rest. Thanks again to Annika, Slade, Tegan, Jess and Jen.
Warm Regards
Noela Rankin
