On Sunday April 22nd, Samford and District Carriage Drivers Inc. held a cone driving competition at the Dayboro Showgrounds. A numbered course consisting of 20 sets of witches’ hats with small balls on top was set up for the carriage drivers to negotiate.
The course was timed, and it was also a fault competition where any ball knocked off incurred 3 penalties.
The divisions were divided up into the Miniature Horse/pony class, Pony Class, Horse Class and Junior Driver class. Dayboro resident Desi Randall was successful in winning the Horse Class with her horse Diamantina Dooley (pictured above).
The Junior Class was won by 6 year old Zoe Randall – competing for the first time (pictured below), with Harry Randall placing equal second with Holly Ferrier from Samford. Zoe was driving with a second set of reins held by Mum Desi, in accordance with the Queensland Carriage Driving Society safety regulations for drivers under 12. It was great day with competitors coming from as far as Caboolture and Gympie to compete.
Anyone interested in joining the Samford Carriage Drivers Inc. can phone Marilyn Taylor on 3289 2509 for details.
