June2012_NEW HORIZONS FOR LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL

Samford Valley Steiner School is the first school in Queensland to become an approved Student Exchange Organisation (SEO) under new national guidelines.  The Department of Education and Training, International Quality Unit who approved the school’s application, congratulated them on their achievement
The secondary student exchange program enables Samford students from Class 10 upwards to exchange with other students around the world for times extending from 3 months to 12 months.  Four students, who are keen to explore the world, have already organised placements in Germany, Canada and France for later this year and early in 2013.
Director Allen Kloeden said, “This is a very exciting initiative for the school.  We aim to develop confident, independent young people who have experience in all areas of life and this exchange program opens up new horizons for our students.”
“The opportunity to live and learn in a different culture, as well as hosting overseas students here at Samford, will give our students an expanded view of the world and a deep  appreciation of other cultures.”
He said that the High School is fast becoming a high school of choice as parents recognised the value of a comprehensive education that supports students to think independently, to research, and come to their own conclusions and judgements.
“The image of our high school as the ‘hippie school down the road’ is long gone.  Anyone who spends time here will soon appreciate that we offer a high quality, rigorous and challenging education.”
This reputation will be further enhanced with the construction of a new dedicated Science building due to be completed in the first half of 2013.  It will be a significant improvement to the current science teaching area, and allow for a step up in the facilities for teaching Hard Craft
Samford Valley Steiner School is in Narrawa Drive, Wights Mountain, 5 minutes drive from Samford Village. For further information visit www.samfordsteiner.qld.edu.au.
The school runs regular school tours for prospective parents to find out what it is like to learn in a Steiner environment from the early years in Preschool, the Primary School and through to Year 12 in the High School.
The next tour is on Thursday 7 June.  Please contact the school on 3430 9600 to register for future tours.
