June2012_LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Dear Editor,
Thank you to those people who dedicate themselves
To the thankless task of committee work (and not sit on the shelves)
Fellow volunteers who have nominated for roles in the past Are the only ones who truly know the enormity and complexity of this task
The endless hours each day, each week, the sacrifices to family and home
The countless number of emails, paperwork and time spent on the phone
The reason for this commitment? Each and every one would reply
‘To make our community a better place, to help, to support, this is why”
However, volunteers are dwindling and committees breaking down
Clubs and groups are managed by few who are exhausted and rundown
Support and appreciation for those dedicated is weakening or absent
It’s time to stop the criticism and complaints . . . show compassion and assistance
Think about the community that you love and cherish
Now think how it may break down, wither away and perish
Take some time to contemplate how you, yourself can be –
Try supporting, nourishing and nurturing your community committee.
