June2011_WINTER HEATING TIPS
Ausgrid’s top 5 winter heating tips:
1. Don’t overheat your home. The temperature of a heated room in winter should be 18-21 degrees Celsius.
2. Don’t heat the rooms you’re not using – close doors to unoccupied rooms, only heat the main living areas.
3. Gas heaters are cheaper to run and have lower greenhouse gas emissions than portable electric heaters.
4. When choosing a gas heater or reverse cycle air-conditioner, go for the high energy efficiency star rating.
5. If the heating unit has adjustable louvres, direct them towards the floor (as hot air rises).
Remember winter is the time to rug-up, so pull out a warm blanket and wear lots of layers to keep warm for free.
