Every neighbourhood wants its Local Legends, and now Laceys Creek has its own Big Johnny Schuhmann to admire.
In a thrilling final at Australian BMX Championships held at Sleeman’s on May 5th Big John of Upper Laceys Creek took out seventh place in the hotly contested 50+ category to earn the coveted A7 number plate.
When asked how he motived himself for all the hard training required for such a star performance he said that he took inspiration from watching the dedication of his son Corrie, who has been a rising star of BMX over recent years, held back only by the injuries inevitably sustained when training for and competing in such a cutting edge sport.
Congratulations John, and may you ever remain an inspiration to all the little people out here who are satisfied – in a very small way – to merely potter about on bicycles, basking in the shadow of such a one as you.
