Local Shows
The Dayboro and Samford Shows are both being held this month.  They are fantastic family events and highlights on our community calendar.  If you require assistance with a Federal Government matter, or would like a free show bag, come down to and visit my stall at either show.
The 60th Annual Dayboro Show is taking place on the 4th and 5th of July and the Samford Show is taking place on 11th and 12th of July.
Preventing Terrorism – Keeping Australia Safe
Our security agencies have disrupted three terrorist plots this year alone and 23 people have now been charged as a result of eight counter-terrorism operations since the terror threat level was raised to high in September 2014.
The Government has been proactive in combating the threat.  We have provided a $630 million boost to our law enforcement agencies and given them stronger tools to fight terrorism.  We have introduced four tranches of legislation which have improved and modernised Australia’s intelligence framework, and have introduced stronger punishments for acts of terrorism.  We are working to ensure that dual-nationals who engage in terrorism lose their Australian Citizenship.  We are doing everything humanly possible to keep Australians safe.

Dry July and National Diabetes Week
Dry July challenges you to go alcohol free for the month of July to support adults living with cancer.  Not only will you feel better, but you can help raise funds to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of cancer patients.
Please consider participating in Dry July or supporting someone who is.  It offers a great opportunity to think about your drinking habits and move toward a healthier lifestyle.
You can find out more at au.dryjuly.com
National Diabetes Week will this year take place from the 12th to 18th of July.  The focus of the week will be raising awareness of type 2 diabetes.  Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes, and affects 85-90% of all people with diabetes.  You can find more information on diabetes and National Diabetes Week at www.diabetesaustralia.com.au
Life of Service Honoured
This Queen’s Birthday we saw local Bert Baker honoured for his life of service to his country and to our community.  Mr Baker has been recognised with a Medal of the Order of Australia.
In 1997 he founded the Pine Rives RAAF Branch, and over the past 18 years has supported and promoted the work they do within our community.  Under his remarkable stewardship the branch has become one of the finest and most active units in Queensland.  His tireless work over many years has made Dickson a better place and we are incredibly lucky to call Mr Bert Baker OAM a local.
These groups made the Centenary an unforgettable and heartfelt milestone, and I thank them.
