LOCAL PERFORMANCE OF DAYBORO STATE SCHOOL’s WAKAKIRRI ENTRY – July 16th
Come along and see what the students have been working to achieve . . . . .
On Wednesday 16th July at 7pm we will be performing our Wakakirri entry in the Covered Sports Area, for the entertainment of our local community. Ideally we would have loved to perform in the hall but, with the number of children involved, there just simply isn’t enough room.
Entry is by gold coin donation and we will be selling tea/coffee and home baking on the night. We will be performing the item a number of times to practice, plus showing a slideshow of photos of the journey that has taken place.
We would love to see as many people come along to support our kids. All monies raised will be used to help with the costs of costumes, props etc. Be sure to rug up!

WHAT IS WAKAKIRRI?
Dayboro State School is participating in Wakakirri Story Dance at The Events Centre Caloundra on Wednesday 23rd July 2014.
Wakakirri Story-Dance is a 3-7 minute story (orientation, complication, resolution) performed on stage to pre-recorded music, using a blend of creative movement and acting. Schools can choose any story, music and creative movement style they wish.
Schools perform their Story-Dance in professional theatres to an audience of industry professionals, family, friends and other schools. There are various Performance Nights, divisions for new and experienced schools and a whole bunch of awards for schools to take home.
Students performing can be from the same or a combination of grades. Specialised teachers and large budgets are not needed or encouraged for schools to enter creative and competitive items. Emphasis in judging Wakakirri is NOT placed upon technical dancing ability or extravagant sets and costumes. An emphasis IS placed upon Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, when making props and costumes and there are special awards for schools that excel in this area.
Dayboro’s item is called “This Way To The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party”. There are 88 students participating either on stage or as part of the backstage crew. Dayboro students dance to make Alice in Wonderland come alive.
