Moreton Bay Regional Council is planning further upgrades to the Dayboro Rodeo arena with more than $150,000 earmarked in 2013/14 budget to begin rebuilding the livestock holding yards at the Dayboro Showgrounds.
Division 11 councillor, Bob Millar said the two stage project would help rejuvenate the facility.
“It’s a significant upgrade for both the announcers stand and the yards which, like the arena, will feature sturdy steel panels to increase safety for both rodeo riders and spectators,” Cr Millar said.
“We’re continuing to work closely with the Dayboro Rodeo Association who have undertaken initial design and planning works to ensure the user groups are the real winners of this project.
“It is an investment for the Dayboro community.  One I’m hopeful will ensure the Dayboro Rodeo remains as one of the biggest events on the rodeo calendar, securing a boost for local and regional tourism.”
President of the Dayboro Rodeo Association, Jacqui French said the holding yard works would complement the recently completed upgrade of the main arena and lighting.
“This upgrade of the yards will cap off an overhaul of the entire rodeo precinct and reduce the ongoing maintenance cost of repairing old timber fencing,” Mrs French said.
The $300,000 project which includes the design and construction of new holding yards and announcers stand will be completed across two financial years.
