Mount Mee Road Update
I’ve had a number of enquiries in the past few weeks about the apparent lack of work currently taking place on the damaged sections of Mount Mee Road.
 I have been advised by the Department of Transport and Main Roads that work is currently progressing off-site.
There is complex geology and topography at these landslip sites and additional design is required to address further complexities in the geology which were uncovered during excavation works. Therefore there is some additional design work that is being undertaken off-site as well as the manufacture of Terramesh systems – used in the stabilisation of slopes.
At this stage it is likely to be at least another month before work resumes fully on site. The work remains on schedule to be completed by early 2013.
Dayboro Show
I will again have a stall at this year’s Dayboro Show. Please make sure you come and say hi. I’m looking forward to another fantastic Show this year.
Marquees for Community Groups & Events
Just a reminder that my office has purchased two marquees (6m x 3m and 3m x 3m). These marquees are available for hire, free of charge, for local community groups to use for your events.  There are photos of the marquees on my Facebook page (facebook.com/SeathHolswichMP). If you would like to apply to hire one or both of the marquees, please email me at pine.rivers@parliament.qld.gov.au
Tourism Forum
Thank you to everyone who supported the Tourism Public Forum in Dayboro on 24th June. The Forum was the first stage in a process of further developing the tourism and recreational potential of the Dayboro and Moreton Bay Hinterland region so that we can attract more tourists and more employment opportunities into our region.
If you weren’t able to attend the Forum and would like to provide suggestions about ways we can increase tourist numbers and opportunities in our region, please email your ideas to my office for consideration.
100% Local Christmas Challenge
Last year Trevor Ruthenberg MP and I coordinated a “buy local” promotion to encourage residents to support our local businesses with their Christmas shopping. We will be running this promotion again this year. If you would like your business to be involved in the 100% Local Christmas Challenge, please email my office and I will send you more detailed information. This promotion is designed to be free of charge for businesses, although we are exploring some paid advertising opportunities for businesses who wish to take up that option. This is part of my commitment to support local businesses and to bring jobs into our region.

Community groups have been invited to put in a bid to share in $12 million available through the Newman Government’s new “Everyone’s Environment” grants program. Applications for the grants opened on 1st July, and I encourage local community groups to apply.
The grants of between $2,000 and $100,000 are to support local community projects which help stop environmental degradation.
Grants are available for a range of projects including:
• Tree-planting and land restoration;
• Community and waterway clean-ups;
• Run-off reduction and water quality improvement;
• Enhancement of the natural beauty of local communities; and
• Monitoring pollutants in streams.

Gambling Community Benefit Fund Grants
It was great to see Dayboro Bowls Club and Dayboro Mens Shed recently successful in obtaining grants from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF).
The GCBF provides one-off grants of up to $35,000 inclusive of GST to approved not-for-profit organisations to help them provide community services or activities that benefit the community. Grants of more than $35,000 inclusive of GST are considered for more complex applications which have significant community benefit.
Applications for the next funding round close on 31st August. For more information, go to: www.olgr.qld.gov.au/grants/gcbf/
