July2012_FUNDING HELPS SUPPORT PINE RIVERS HOMELESS

Member for Pine Rivers, Seath Holswich, has welcomed more than $651,000 in funding for vital accommodation and support services in Strathpine to help people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Youthcare Pine Rivers Inc will share in $70 million of funding for homelessness services announced by Communities Minister Tracy Davis in Parliament this week.
Mr Holswich is Patron of Youthcare Pine Rivers and has previously volunteered with various homeless support services.
“Youthcare Pine Rivers runs a temporary supported accommodation initiative that helps people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness,” Mr Holswich said.
“It is a marvellous local organisation which gives people hope when they need it most and the chance to get their lives back on track.
“I’m very pleased to see the service receive the funding it needs to keep up its good work in the local community.”
Communities Minister Tracy Davis said the Newman Government was funding organisations across Queensland to help provide temporary accommodation for people who are homeless or at imminent risk of becoming homeless.
“Homelessness is a complex issue and there are many factors that can lead to homelessness,” Ms Davis said.
“Youthcare is one of 39 organisations from Coolangatta to Cairns and west to Mount Isa which will share in the total funding of more than $70 million over three years.”
“This funding will help these organisations continue to provide specialist homelessness services to people in crisis and support those most in need.”
“The Newman Government greatly values the support of the non-government sector to deliver these vital services and we will continue to work with them to maximise service delivery.”
