on: Canine 3 yearly (tri-ennial) Vaccinations
Since the development of canine vaccines in the 1950’s it has been common practice to vaccinate dogs annually.  Recent advances in vaccine research and development have resulted in the registration of a 3 yearly (triennial) vaccination which protects your dog against some diseases for 3 years.
The new 3 yearly vaccine will reliably provide your adult dog with 3 years protection against canine distemper, hepatitis and parvovirus (C3).   At UQ Dayboro Vets, we’ve updated our vaccination protocol based on this research and are happy to announce we are now offering the 3 yearly vaccine for adult dogs.
It is important to remember however, that in addition to the 3 yearly vaccine, an annual booster is still required for canine kennel cough (Parainfluenza and Bordetella bronchisepta) which can easily be performed at your dogs annual health check ensuring your dog has the full C5 coverage.
Annual health checks are very important as dogs age much faster than humans.  Missing just one annual health check is equivalent to you not going to the doctor for about seven years! These appointments are also a good opportunity for you to ask us about nutrition, behaviour and other pet issues you may want to discuss as well as keeping up to date with annual heartworm injections.
So in summary, your dog will still need to come in every year for their annual health check and booster, but they will no longer need a vaccination for every disease every year.
From all the staff at UQ Dayboro Vets.
