CRACKIN’ CANCER CHARITY RIDE:
In May three of our members, Storky, Peter and Bob, travelled to Glen Innes along with Graeme Sleeman, from Mudgeeraba, to run a charity ride for Crackin’ Cancer.
It was bloody cold but fantastic riding in the high country, (3800 feet), warm days, clear skies, deep and very clear water in what was sapphire country.
All of the rides started from Three Waters High Country Holidays, about 15kms from Glen Innes, and were around 20kms except for the last day when we rode into Glenn Innes for a great lunch at the Railway Hotel. There were 33 riders for the first couple of days and then numbers varied for the other days.
Our hosts, Steve and Kerry, were very hospitable in providing hot showers, toilets, firewood, and each night we went to the ‘Gunyagh’ for drinks, photos, tall tales, and with a fire roaring it was a haven from the cold night.
The Crackin’ Cancer people will run another ride next year from 11th to 18th May, 2013. This is an extremely great ride, take warm clothing, and self cater for yourself and your horse. There are two evening meals supplied by the Crackin’ Cancer people on Saturday 11th, and Friday 17th, with a rest day on Wednesday, and an auction that night (which is a lot of fun). Preliminary enquiries, ring or email Bob.
DAYBORO TRAILRIDERS MAY RIDE:
The normal monthly ride was to Donnybrook forestry area with 23 riders meeting near Farm Fantastic. They were then escorted to the starting point near Bobby Matheson’s place. Bobby was our guide for the day.
We started off the day with Ken’s truck not wanting to start – a quick tow soon had him going; but we were unable to load Jonathan’s horse, so he rode home and loaded the horse on his float joining us in time to ride out with us.
The ride was a bit over 2.5 hours through a range of native trees, creek crossings, some good mud crab spots, a dam, and lots of pine trees. We arrived back and set up our new small BBQ (purchased by Graham Bailey on the Clubs behalf), great to cook on and easy to transport! After the main burger course we enjoyed delicious desserts and cold drinks.
Before leaving for home we thanked Bobby and Irene Matheson, and also Roseanne, from Beechmont club, who had joined us for the ride.
DAYBORO DAY:
The Dayboro Day Parade was a great sight again this year – with 16 riders taking part our Club was well represented. The crowd appears to be bigger each year with small children fascinated by the horses.
WYARALONG RIDE:
Our Club travelled to Wyaralong Dam for the June long weekend as this catchment area has been set aside for horse riding, pushbike riding and walking (no motorised vehicles allowed).
Peter, Lisa, Gemma, Stewie, Peggy and Bob enjoyed all the rides over the three days. Peter thought the Sunday ride beside the dam was the best, although the Saturday ride to Boonah and back, with a great lunch at Symon’s Hotel, where we were joined by Suzanne, Noella & Don, plus Mudgeeraba and Beechmont clubs and crews was very enjoyable too.
These trails are still being developed and more will open on the 1st July, 2012.
Another good weekend horse riding with friends.

Happy trails.
