July2011_WE HAVE A CONNECTION

Discover Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and other new media at your local library and be in the running to win an iPad or a digital camera.
Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan Sutherland said that from mid July the region’s libraries would host Looking @2.0 classes to help residents navigate the maze of online technology.
“The classes are ideal for people who have heard of Facebook and Twitter, but haven’t had the courage or the know how to try them out,” Mayor Sutherland said.
“You’ll be able to get up to speed on sharing and storing photos online, backing up digital files, online gaming and creating your own podcasts.
It’s a chance to learn in a safe environment before joining the digital revolution.”
The Looking @2.0 courses are a State Library of Queensland initiative with Moreton Bay Region Libraries hosting free training sessions over 11 weeks.
“If you are one of the first 300 people to attend one of our library sessions you’ll receive a support pack that includes a free USB stick, instruction book, pen, and a free holding voucher for use in any Moreton Bay library,” Mayor Sutherland said.
“For those with their own P.C and email account, the courses can be completed online and at home, but by booking for one of Moreton Bay Regional Libraries’ group sessions you’ll have the advantage of a tutor and other learners to share the experience with."
The State Library is offering a range of prizes for participants including a digital camera and an iPad.
You will need to book to be part of Moreton Bay region’s in-library sessions and it’s also possible to join individual classes on topics of interest.
Numbers will be limited by the number of computer terminals available at your local library.
Visit the Moreton Bay Region Libraries site at http://library.moretonbay.qld.gov.au   for more information, session times, dates and registration.
