July2011_ROADS UPDATE
Mount Mee Road
Carolyn Male MP, State Member for Pine Rivers, has received advice from the Department of Main Roads regarding the works to repair landslip damage caused to Mount Mee Road by unprecedented flooding events in early January 2011.
As you may be aware, the flooding events of January 2011 impacted significantly on Mount Mee Road which sustained pavement damage as well as more than 20 landslips. Emergency repairs were carried out and the road currently has a single lane open at Ocean View under traffic signal control.
The department is working towards restoring the road to two lanes. These works are complex and the department is currently determining design solutions.
At this time it is expected that the reconstruction work will be started before Christmas. Residents of the Ocean View area will be kept informed of the timeframes for the works which will be determined once design is completed.
The patience of road users during this time is greatly appreciated.
Works on Mount Mee Road are occurring as part of Operation Queenslander, which is the largest reconstruction effort in Queensland’s history, rebuilding communities, fixing infrastructure and restoring regional economies. It is about making our roads better, safer, stronger and more resilient than before.
The project is being delivered under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA), a joint federal and state initiative.
A project page about the works on Mount Mee Road is currently being established on the department’s website. It was expected to be available by the end of June at www.tmr.qld.gov.au/Projects/Name/M.aspx and will be updated as works progress.
The department will also continue to keep the community updated on these works.
