July2011_Poultry Perfection on Show

The North Pine Poultry Club’s Annual Show was a successful event that was well attended by the public.  Local and interstate poultry breeders exhibited an impressive display of both hard feather and soft feather purebred fowl.
Chickens entered in the show ranged from cute and cuddly boutique purebreeds like Silkies, Japanese Bantams and  Pekins, lean and sometimes challenging looking game birds, and not forgetting the extra large fowl with masses of feathers (Croad Langshans, Sussex, Dorkings).
Councillor Bob Millar of the Moreton Bay Regional Council is patron for the North Pine Poultry Club.  Bob kindly took time out of his busy schedule to present all the prizes and appreciate the magnificent poultry and efforts of all involved.
He presented Dayboro locals, the Sellin family with the Champion Bird of Show prize.  The winning fowl was a stunning White Pekin Pullet.  The Sellin family have a history of winning best of show awards throughout Queensland and other states and they received significant words of praise from the judges.
There was positive feedback from visitors to the show drawing comments like, “I didn’t know chickens could grow that big,” and, “What an incredible looking chicken that is.  Can you tell me what it is called?”  In addition, poultry experts were on hand to answer questions and provided valuable education about purebreed poultry.
North Pine Poultry Club promotes purebreed poultry and backyard poultry care.  They meet every 3rd Tuesday of the month at the Cedar Creek Hall, Closeburn, Samsonvale.
Poultry is not just about chickens!  Poultry covers Waterfowl as well.  If you have waterfowl or chickens we would love you to come along and share your knowledge, enjoy the company of fellow poultry keepers and have a cuppa too.  See www.northpinepoultryclub.com for further details about the club.
Next meeting is Tuesday 19th of July.  You do not need to become a member to attend meetings; however there is a small entry fee that helps cover the hire of the hall.  Contact Cathy Newton on 07 3886 7008 for more information
