HEALTHWISE

 by Teresa Quinn

“Life begins at 40” or so they say, however our bodies are already on the way to decline as bones become thinner, arthritis sets in and we notice we’re not as mobile or flexible as we were 20 years ago.  Sound familiar?  Do not lose hope.  All is not lost.

By keeping our brains challenged, our bodies mobile and strength levels up, we will keep our agility for a lot longer.

This does not mean running a marathon or lifting heavy weights.  Just using our own bodies with little or no resistance can help tremendously as does stretching for flexibility and walking (with a little exertion) to keep our heart and lungs ticking over.  We are all living a lot longer, so it makes sense we keep our bodies in working order for a more independent lifestyle.

Where can we do all this?  The Dayboro community is lucky to have a well equipped gym at the local swimming pool.  It is a safe environment with access to a personal trainer who can give professional advice on how to help your body.  Why not try a session with the ‘Twilight Club’ which is aimed at the older generation.  Meet new friends and enjoy getting your fitness levels up in safety and comfort.
